Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum has bemoaned
the devastating effect of Galamsey on the environment. Galamsey has wreaked
havoc on water bodies in the country killing living organisms and forcing Ghana
Water Company to treat water at a high cost. Farm lands and vegetation are
being destroyed leading to short fall in food production and Dr. Ndoum is very
much aware of the situation, “our lands are the source of
food so if they are being destroyed, the cost of food will rise. We should all
help in driving galamseyers away. When our lands, rivers and water are
destroyed, our future is also destroyed” he noted.
He further stated that Galamsey is against the constitution of
Ghana and must therefore be abolished immediately. Dr. Ndoum made this
statement as a host on ATV’s Ghana Great and Strong show.
His statement comes in the wake of Minister of Lands and Natural
Resource’s three-week ultimatum to illegal miners to quit or face the full
rigors of the law.
